    Apothecary Products (APL) is currently seeking a Sr. Sourcing Category Manager to develop and implement sourcing and supply strategies within assigned complex or critical commodity categories that support the Company’s growth, profitability, working capital and continuity of supply objectives. The Senior Sourcing Category Manager will perform supply market analyses, internal demand analyses, risk analyses, supplier selection and on-going evaluation; RFQ’s, negotiate prices, stocking programs & commercial terms that optimize the profitability of APL while appropriately managing risk.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Competencies + Skills:

    • Close collaboration with the business teams (Marketing, Customer Marketing, Supply Chain Planning, RD&E, etc) to understand Company sourcing needs and select best suppliers to achieve long-term goals while focusing on reducing total cost of ownership (TCO), total cost to serve APL customers, and continuity of supply.
    • Lead supplier integration activities associated with new product introduction including RFP’s, RFQ’s, negotiations, source selection, initial unit forecasting and product phase-in purchase orders prior to delivering a clean hand off to the Supply Chain Planning team responsible for managing steady-state supplier replenishments.
    • Effectively manage escalations from Supply Chain Planning team in situations where a supplier under-performing outside of “business-as-usual” expectations.
    • Identify and manage sourcing and supplier engagement activities associated with current business including strategic sourcing plans, RFQs, bid and proposal reviews, negotiations, contract awards, etc.
    • Execute negotiation strategies to deliver business objectives and achieve sustainable relationships with suppliers.
    • Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using cost models and benchmarking analyses.
    • Establish and maintain supplier relationships.
    • Manage supplier performance; prepare and hold business reviews with stakeholders to review supplier performance, future opportunities and/or challenges, and develop a forward-looking plan.
    • Implement supply and supplier risk management actions and support resolution of supplier compliance, quality or performance issues.
    • Analyze industry and evolving trends to proactively identify supply base issues to reduce cost, minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and exploit emerging opportunities that benefit APL.
    • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on procurement principles and processes and maintain procurement ethics in accordance with company policies.
    • Other duties as beneficial to APL.

    Qualifications

    Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field; consideration given to equivalent experience.

     

    Certification: CPM, APICS or other relevant certifications preferred.

     

    Work Experience: A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a sourcing, procurement or manufacturing/production environment across a variety of industries/products, of which 2-4 years is sourcing/procurement experience.

     

    Preferred Experience: Prior experience understanding the customer requirements of mass US retailers, sourcing medical device and consumer packaged goods, and managing supplier quality.                      

     

    Travel Requirement: Approximately 20%, to potentially include domestic or international trips that will exceed 1 week in duration once per quarter.

     

    Critical skills and abilities:  

    • Ability to learn capabilities and capacities of our suppliers quickly.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of MRP, supplier management, category/commodity management, strategic sourcing, negotiations and contracting concepts.
    • Familiarity with Retail Packaging purchasing, including GMI process, and Art Refresh processes.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving capability using fact-based decision making and applying creative thinking while assessing implications of decisions in a timely manner.
    • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities through accurate and thorough data and financial analysis, risk assessments and process reviews.
    • Proven ability to influence, drive results and work cross-functionally in a team-based environment.
    • Detail oriented, capable of multi-tasking and being able to adapt to changes in the working environment.
    • Ability to work effectively while traveling or working remotely away from main company offices.
    • Effective written communication, presentation skills, and influencing skills both internally and externally.
    • Availability to support communications of international suppliers which may be outside traditional business hours.
    • Proven ability to cultivate an active network of relationships within and outside of the organization.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
    • Must maintain safe work practices and adhere to safety requirements.
